We have finally received the "green light" from Basketball BC to begin Phase 1 of RETURN TO SPORT!!!🏀🔥
There are strict guidelines we must follow, but at least we're able to start small group training sessions.
Please find the guidelines here: https://www.basketball.bc.ca/blog/post/return-to-sport
GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS, as expected...the bad news is, the school districts in the S. Okanagan (as well as community centers) aren't allowing anyone to use their gyms this summer. We've explored every possible avenue and have LUCKILY reached an agreement with Unisus School for this summer. https://www.unisus.ca/
Unisus is a fairly new and little-known private school in Sumerland that happens to have phenomenal facilities and a sport-oriented administration. They have generously allowed us to use their gym, and for that we are eternally thankful!!
Right now we are entering PHASE 1 of Basketball BC's Return to Sport. While we're in Phase 1, we will not be able to run *traditional* basketball camps or training sessions; meaning we are restricted to smaller groups (2 players per hoop, probably 12 total players in the gym at one time) and the training sessions will be shorter (90min-2hrs), and more focused on skill development. We're also unable to play "contact" basketball, meaning that we must continue to respect social distancing during each training session. No 1 on 1, no 5 on 5, etc., until we can eventually get to Phase 3.
Bad news #2: Because we aren't able to rent a gym in the Oliver-Osoyoos area, NBN 2020 is unfortunately not going to happen this summer. Nobody is sadder about this than Basso and me, but it's something that is completely out of our control.
THE GOOD NEWS: We will begin offering small group skill sessions starting perhaps as early as next week through Lake City Basketball. There will be VERY limited space fo these sessions, and they will likely be full within a day. If you're interested, please visit https://lakecitybasketball.weebly.com/ to inquire. Also, due to the extremely limited space, we will likely not be able to accommodate everyone, which we deeply apologize for; but again, this is out of our control. Because of this, Lake City and D-League players will have priority registration. To accomodate as many players as possible, we will be offering 1-week blocks throughout July and hopefully into August.
I have attached the Return to Sport document for you to read.
If you have any questions about registration, please email Lake City ASAP,or me at firstname.lastname@example.org
One Phase at a time!
